Volontariat en Inde
Serving the most suffering first, in Pondicherry, for over 60 years
Volontariat was created more than 60 years ago in Pondicherry by French social worker Madeleine de Blic — Padma Shri awardee remembered as the 'Mother Teresa of Puducherry' — on the Emmaus movement's principle of serving the most suffering first. It schools poor children through Oupalam and sponsorships, shelters street children at Souriya and Nila Illam, rehabilitates persons with disabilities through the Shanti weaving workshop, houses destitute elders at Amaidi Illam and Thendral Illam, and farms spirulina at Touttipakkam to fight malnutrition.
