Sabuj Sangha traces its roots to a social club started in 1954 in Nandakumarpur village in the South 24 Parganas, and grew into a development organisation serving communities of the Sundarban delta and wider West Bengal. It works on health, education and child protection, water, sanitation and hygiene, livelihoods, environment and disaster response, and runs a primary teachers' training institute.
