Lok Prerna began work in the Santhal Pargana region of Jharkhand in 1992 and now runs around a dozen programmes spanning water access, sanitation, women's rights, sustainable agriculture, microfinance, clean energy and health awareness. Its projects include PRERNA, which raises awareness of Rh incompatibility in pregnancy, and JDF, which provides education and nutrition support to malnourished children. In a Charities Aid Foundation India survey of 1,342 NGOs assessing registration status, staffing, income and governance, Lok Prerna received the highest score and was ranked the top NGO across Bihar and Jharkhand combined.
