Founded on artisan initiative in 1993 in Kutch's desert villages, Kala Raksha Trust is a grassroots social enterprise preserving traditional embroidery and patchwork. Its artisan-managed centre at Sumrasar Sheikh houses a museum of heirloom textiles, artisan design and pricing committees set fair wages, and in 2005 it founded Kala Raksha Vidhyalaya, the first design school for traditional artisans, alongside preventive health care and basic education programmes.
