Ankur Society for Alternatives in Education was founded in 1983 by a group of activists, educators and artists who felt formal schooling was failing children already pushed to society's margins. Working in low-income Delhi neighbourhoods, it uses experimental, arts- and community-based pedagogy rather than a conventional classroom model to engage children and young people left out of the mainstream education system.
