Near village Sarabha in Ludhiana district, Guru Amar Das Apahaj Ashram is a registered charity founded by Dr. Naunihal Singh Mangat, a Punjab Agricultural University professor who returned from Canada to serve. Named after the third Sikh Guru, it picks up homeless, disabled, mentally ill and terminally sick people from the roadside and gives them shelter, food, nursing and medical care entirely free, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
