Run by the Chief Khalsa Diwan since 1904, the Central Khalsa Orphanage at Putlighar, Amritsar has sheltered and educated orphaned boys for over 120 years. Its most famous ward was freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh, who lived here from 1907 — the orphanage preserves his memory with a museum and annual homage. It continues to provide housing, schooling, gurbani and vocational training to orphaned children.
