Sumanahalli Society was established in Bengaluru in 1977 at the request of then Karnataka Chief Minister D Devaraj Urs to serve people affected by leprosy. Its work has since expanded to HIV/AIDS care, services for people with disabilities, a wound care centre, education, vocational training, job placement, housing and terminal care. The centre is run in collaboration with Catholic religious congregations.
