Shanti Maitree
Kandhamal social development group serving tribal and Dalit communities since 1989
Shanti Maitree was formed in 1989 by a group of development activists and registered that year under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, to work with tribal, Dalit and other marginalised communities in Odisha's Kandhamal district. Headquartered in Balliguda with a further office in Kendrapada district, it runs programmes across livelihood and agriculture (including food processing), health and nutrition, maternal care through its Maa Gruha project for expectant mothers, and women's empowerment and local governance. The organisation frames its mission as building a caste-, class- and gender-blind civil society, working through grassroots participation to bring health, education and economic opportunity to underserved tribal villages.
