Safai Karmachari Andolan is a national movement working to end manual scavenging — the manual cleaning of dry latrines and sewers by workers from marginalised castes — and to secure dignified rehabilitation and alternative livelihoods for safai karmacharis. Headquartered in New Delhi, it organises communities around the issue, campaigns for the demolition of illegal dry latrines, and pursues legal and policy advocacy for enforcement of India's manual-scavenging prohibition laws.
