Nethrodaya
Let's share the light
Founded on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October 2002, by visually impaired activist C. Govindakrishnan, Nethrodaya is a Chennai-based social service institution run by and for the differently abled. From its Nolambur campus it operates a free special school for blind and disabled boys and girls from classes 1 to 12 with food and accommodation, free hostels for college-going disabled students, TNPSC coaching and computer training with laptops for toppers, alongside vigorous advocacy — from petitioning for accessible voting systems to fighting insensitive treatment of employees with disabilities. Its work earned the National Award from the President of India in 2023 and the Government of Tamil Nadu's Best Institution Award.
