Conceived by Bombay's citizens in 1905 and opened to the public on 10 January 1922 as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India, CSMVS is one of India's foremost museums, housed in a Grade I heritage Indo-Saracenic landmark designed by George Wittet. A public trust run without dependence on government, it presents sculptures, miniature paintings, Indus Valley artefacts and world-class travelling exhibitions, and reaches lakhs of children through its Children's Museum and Museum on Wheels buses.
