Started in June 1954 in a rented house with just four girl students, Andh Kanya Prakash Gruh in Memnagar, Ahmedabad is a residential school and home for visually impaired girls. On a 10,000 sq yard campus allotted by the Gujarat Government in 1966, it provides Braille education, lodging and boarding, music, physiotherapy, IT training, jewellery-making and massage-therapy vocational training — caring for girls from schooling through employment and even arranging their marriages, so that each can lead a self-reliant, dignified life.
