S Premkumar Raja

Raja holds two master's degrees in the social sciences, including an M.Phil from Annamalai University.

Raja has worked for around three decades as a community welfare and healthcare administrator, initially in maternal and child health, and has planned and implemented social and healthcare projects in several parts of India.

The Nightingales Medical Trust, which he co-founded in 1998, works for the wellbeing of older people through projects on dementia care, active and healthy ageing, elder abuse, social integration, livelihoods and capacity building. It opened what it describes as India's largest residential dementia care centre in 2010 and its largest dementia day care centre, in Hyderabad, in 2017. The trust runs a 24-hour helpline and was recognised in 2021 to operate the national helpline for senior citizens in Karnataka, and has been designated a regional resource centre by the government.

Raja has also served as executive director of the Dementia India Alliance.

The Nightingales Medical Trust received an international research award in 2011 for the most promising intervention for people with dementia and their carers, given by the Fondation Médéric Alzheimer and Alzheimer's Disease International, and has received state awards for its work with older people.[2][3][4]
