Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir played international cricket for India between 2003 and 2016 and is now head coach of the national side; he served as MP for East Delhi from 2019 to 2024 and received the Padma Shri in 2019. His charitable work runs through the Gautam Gambhir Foundation, which he started in Delhi in 2014.

The foundation's central commitment is to the children of paramilitary personnel killed on duty, whose education it undertakes to fund in full. Alongside this it runs food and public health work in Delhi: community kitchens opened in Patel Nagar in 2017, and a free hot-meal scheme called Gambhir ki Rasoi launched in 2020 for people left without income by the pandemic. It works with adolescent girls from low-income households on nutrition, health and hygiene, and plants trees in the city as part of an air-pollution response. During the pandemic Gambhir donated two years of his parliamentary salary, and the foundation organised COVID-19 vaccination camps in his constituency.[2]
