Sajjan Jindal is the founder of JSW Foundation [1], an Indian non-profit working on education, healthcare, water & sanitation and arts & culture.

Sajjan Jindal (born 5 December 1959) is an Indian industrialist, chairman and managing director of the JSW Group, a conglomerate with interests in steel, energy, infrastructure, cement and paints. He is the second son of the industrialist and politician Om Prakash Jindal.

The group's social development arm is the JSW Foundation, established in 1989, which works on education, health, community development, sport, and art and culture in the areas around JSW's operations. The foundation is chaired by his wife, Sangita Jindal.

Early life and education

Jindal was born on 5 December 1959 into the Jindal industrial family. He took a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the Ramaiah Institute of Technology in Bangalore.

Career

Jindal joined the O. P. Jindal Group in 1982. He built up Jindal Iron and Steel Company, incorporated in 1989, and Jindal Vijayanagar Steel, incorporated in 1995; the two merged in 2005 to form JSW Steel. He is chairman and managing director of the JSW Group and served as chairman of the World Steel Association for 2021–22.

The JSW Foundation, founded in 1989, is the group's corporate social responsibility body. Its programmes cover school education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, livelihoods, sport, and the conservation and promotion of art and heritage. JSW Steel has reported reaching several hundred thousand people a year through its health, nutrition and education programmes.

Recognition

Jindal received the Willy Korf/Ken Iverson Steel Vision Award in 2009, the National Metallurgist Award (Industry) in 2014, the IIM–JRD Tata Award for Corporate Leadership in 2017, Business Standard's CEO of the Year in 2018, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2022, a place among Fortune India's Best CEOs in 2024 and the Economic Times Business Leader of the Year award in 2025.

The JSW Foundation has twice received the Golden Peacock Award for corporate social responsibility, in 2009 and 2019.[2][3][4][5]

JSW Foundation works on education, health and nutrition, skills, water and sanitation, sports, and art and heritage across 38 districts in 17 states. It is funded by the JSW Group and has no public donation route.
