Baba Amte

Baba Amte is the founder of Lok Biradari Prakalp[1] and Anandwan (Maharogi Seva Samiti) (1949)[2], Indian non-profits working on tribal welfare, healthcare, education, animals and disability from Gadchiroli.

Lok Biradari Prakalp

Lok Biradari Prakalp, founded in 1973 by Dr. Prakash Amte and Dr. Mandakini Amte under Baba Amte's Maharogi Sewa Samiti, runs a hospital, school and animal orphanage serving the Madia-Gond tribal community at Hemalkasa in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.

Lok Biradari Prakalp reports the following, on its own site:

  • Sadhana Vidyalaya at Jinjgaon (inaugurated 27 May 2019) has balwadi and first-standard classes with 54 admissions done

Anandwan (Maharogi Seva Samiti)

Anandwan was founded in 1949 by Baba Amte near Warora in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, as a self-sufficient community rehabilitating leprosy-affected, disabled, and tribal people through livelihood training, small-scale industries and healthcare. It now runs hospitals, schools for blind and deaf students, a college and an orphanage under the Maharogi Seva Samiti trust, led today by Dr Vikas Amte.

Anandwan (Maharogi Seva Samiti) reports the following, on its own site:

  • Over 2,000 differently-abled people live and work with dignity at Maharogi Sewa Samiti's Anandwan, earning their livelihoods through its programmes.
