V-Excel Educational Trust was founded in Chennai in 2001 to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, particularly autism spectrum disorder, across their entire lifespan rather than only during school years. It runs special schools, early-intervention programs, speech and occupational therapy, remedial education and vocational-training and job-placement services designed to carry a person from early childhood diagnosis through adult employment and community participation. What began as a single Chennai centre has expanded to 18 centres across Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, including outposts in Nashik, Solapur, Erode, Tirunelveli and other smaller cities where specialised disability services are scarce.
