The Roja Muthiah Research Library (RMRL) was institutionalised in Chennai in 1994 around the personal collection of the late Roja Muthiah, which the University of Chicago helped bring to India and preserve after his death in 1992. The library provides primary and secondary research material for Tamil studies across the humanities, social sciences and sciences. It has grown its holdings well beyond the original collection and continues to preserve and expand a historic archive of Tamil print culture for researchers.
