The National Federation of the Blind Maharashtra was established in 1977 to improve the quality of life of visually impaired people in the state. It runs the NFBM Jagriti School for Blind Girls, the Prof R K Rakibe memorial vocational rehabilitation and training centre in Nashik, an industrial vocational training institute for girls in Aurangabad, a Braille transcription unit in Vile Parle, Mumbai, and the Hasmukh Shah memorial Braille publishing centre in Pune. It also publishes the Braille quarterly 'Braille Jagruti' and posts an annual report on its website.
