Mahavir Cancer Sansthan
Bihar's temple-funded comprehensive cancer centre
Established by the Mahavir Mandir Trust and inaugurated in 1998 by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Mahavir Cancer Sansthan & Research Centre at Phulwarisharif, Patna was the first comprehensive charitable cancer institute for Bihar and Jharkhand, a region carrying roughly 2.5 lakh cancer patients at any time. Funded largely by temple donations, it offers radiation, medical and surgical oncology, nuclear medicine, a blood bank and palliative care under one roof for economically weaker patients, alongside research on the region's arsenic-linked cancer burden.
