EKTA, meaning unity, was initiated in Madurai in 1990 as a resource centre for women. It trains NGO staff, students and elected women panchayat representatives, offers counselling and legal referrals for women facing violence, and campaigns on girls' education, prevention of violence and sensitising men and boys towards a gender-just society.
