Chetanalaya began in 1970 as the organised social action wing of the Archdiocese of Delhi and has grown into one of the capital's most enduring community development organisations. Working irrespective of religion across Delhi NCR's resettlement colonies and rural Haryana, it organises domestic workers, rescues bonded and child labourers, runs self-help groups, disability and elderly programmes, and responds to disasters.
