Arun Nevatia

Founder

Arun Nevatia is the founder of Rural Health Care Foundation [1], an Indian non-profit working on healthcare from Kolkata.

Arun Nevatia (died 2013) was an Indian philanthropist from Kolkata who, with his brother Anant Nevatia, established the Rural Health Care Foundation, a trust running low-cost outpatient clinics in rural West Bengal.

The brothers set up the foundation in continuation of the philanthropic work of their late father.

Early life and education

Nevatia was diagnosed with cancer at the age of ten and lived with the illness and its treatment for the rest of his life. He studied mathematics at St Xavier's College, Kolkata.

Career

Nevatia concluded that he owed his long life to being able to pay for good medical care, a privilege unavailable to most Indians, and set out to build a sustainable system of health care for rural communities that could not afford it.

The first health centre opened at Mayapur in West Bengal in 2007 and treated some 8,000 patients in its first month. Its success led to the formal registration of the Rural Health Care Foundation as a public trust in 2009. Arun Nevatia died in 2013; his brother Anant Nevatia is president of the foundation, which has since grown into a network of clinics across several districts of West Bengal.[2][3][4]

Rural Health Care Foundation

Rural Health Care Foundation, based in Kolkata, has spent more than a decade providing holistic healthcare to underserved rural communities in West Bengal. It runs curative care, preventive-health programmes and crisis relief for the rural poor across the state.
