Started in Mylapore, Chennai in 1970 by Dr. P. Leelavathy and Dr. S.K. Nagarajan, The Clarke School for the Deaf has grown from a modest initiative into one of India's leading schools for children with special needs. It educates, trains and rehabilitates children who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as those with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, multiple disabilities and deafblindness, combining early intervention, academic education and vocational training, and drawing students from across the country.
