The Society for Rehabilitation of Crippled Children (SRCC) began in 1947 when volunteers started a clinic for children affected by poliomyelitis; Jawaharlal Nehru became its patron and land was granted at Haji Ali. Its SRCC Centre for Child Development offers physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, autism programmes, special education and prosthetics and orthotics. The Society also established a paediatric super-specialty hospital in Mumbai.
