Shaheen was established in 2002 by poet and activist Jameela Nishat in the Old City of Hyderabad. It supports marginalised Muslim, Dalit and other backward community women facing domestic violence, child marriage and trafficking, offering crisis intervention, counselling, vocational training and community harmony work across Old City neighbourhoods.
