Strengthening India's self-help group movement since 2001
APMAS grew out of a 1998 working group headed by Dr Vijay Mahajan on how to strengthen Andhra Pradesh's self-help groups, and was registered as a public society in Hyderabad on 14 June 2001 with former NABARD chairman Dr P. Kotaiah as founding chairperson. A technical resource organisation for the SHG movement, it rates and builds the capacity of SHG federations, promotes women-led farmer producer organisations, publishes the Mahila Sadhikaratha magazine and works with governments, NABARD and donors across many Indian states.
