JGVK grew out of a youth initiative in Joygopalpur village near Basanti in the Sundarbans and works on education, health, women's self-help groups, water and disaster resilience in the delta. It runs schools, a health programme with local village health workers, and long-term water monitoring studies with Danish partners.
