IDEA (Foundation for Initiatives in Development and Education for All) is a non-profit founded in 2002 by Dr. Usha Pillai, growing out of her PhD research into the educational and developmental problems of marginalised communities. Based in Pune, Maharashtra, it started with a single slum study centre and has since expanded across roughly 26 communities in and around Pune (including villages near Hinjewadi and Bhor), with programmes also reaching Kerala and Chennai. Its five core programmes are UTKARSH (community-based study centres for children), UDAAN (educational sponsorship for needy children), ASHAKIRAN (skill-development courses for women and youth), UNNATI (entrepreneurial development for women) and E-SAKSHAR (digital literacy). This is a distinct organisation from the similarly-abbreviated 'IDEA' already on Daan (Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneur Association, slug idea-divyangjan) — verified via its own Pune address, founder and ideafoundation.org.in domain.
