A pioneer charitable trust in the fight against cancer, the Gujarat Cancer Society was formally established in 1961 and in 1971 co-founded the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute as a public-private partnership with the Government of Gujarat, with the Governor as its president. From the M.P. Shah Cancer Hospital and Community Oncology Centre to the 750-bed NABH-accredited GCS Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre dedicated in 2011, the society has diagnosed and treated lakhs of patients while training new generations of doctors and nurses.
