The Consumer Guidance Society of India, established in Mumbai in 1966 by nine determined women, is India's first consumer organisation. For six decades CGSI has handled consumer complaints, run product-testing and food safety campaigns, published the Keemat magazine and pushed for the consumer protection laws and redressal forums that Indian buyers rely on today.
