COVA was initiated in 1995 with eight community-based organisations to address communal conflicts and riots in the old city areas of Hyderabad, and has since grown into a national network of member organisations. It runs peace and harmony programmes, women's and youth initiatives, and a refugee facilitation centre that works with UNHCR-registered refugees living in Hyderabad.
