AVAS (Association for Voluntary Action and Service) is a Bengaluru trust founded in 1980 by professionals and social activists concerned about the deprivations facing the city's slum dwellers, including founder-member Anita Reddy. It works on participatory, in-situ housing development, healthcare through a community health-worker network, education and skills/income-generation programmes, and has advocated at a policy level against evictions and demolitions affecting slum communities in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
