Manavya
Founded in 1997 by Vijayatai Lawate, who had spent 35 years serving commercial sex workers and their children, Manavya runs Gokul at Bhugaon near Pune - among India's first orphanages for HIV-positive children - giving destitute and orphaned children and women shelter, nutrition, education and antiretroviral treatment without stigma. An on-campus medical centre, the UMED mobile clinic for village and slum families living with HIV, and vocational training carry Vijayatai's crusade forward.
Manavya reports the following, on its own site:
- 57 children aged up to 18 live as one family at the Gokul home in Bhugaon
