David Cardoz is the founder / co-founder of Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT) (1990)[1], an Indian non-profit working on women & children, healthcare and orphans & child care from Mumbai.

David Cardoz is an Indian architect and conservationist who is the chairperson and co-founder of the Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT), a Mumbai charity working with children and families affected by HIV, tuberculosis and urban poverty.

CCDT's own account of its history states that the organisation was established in 1990 by Sara D'Mello, who is listed as its founder and trustee, with Cardoz described as chairperson and co-founder.

Career

Cardoz is an architect whose practice includes heritage and environmental conservation work in Maharashtra. Two conservation projects for which he was the architect, St Peter's Church at Bandra in Mumbai and the conservatory at the Bombay Zoo in Byculla, have received heritage awards.

He is a member of the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee, appointed by the Government of Maharashtra, and in 2012 was appointed to the monitoring committee for the Matheran Eco-Sensitive Zone in the Western Ghats by the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests. He has also been involved in planning for the Mahabaleshwar–Panchgani Eco-Sensitive Zone.

As chairperson and co-founder of CCDT he has been associated with the trust since its beginnings in 1990, when it started work in a self-settled leprosy colony in Borivali and in Kamathipura, Mumbai's largest red-light district. The trust works on care and support for children and families affected by HIV and tuberculosis, on child protection, and on community health in Mumbai's informal settlements.[2][3]

CCDT has worked for over three decades with underprivileged and vulnerable communities in Mumbai, across Maharashtra and in other Indian states. Its programmes cover community-led and school-based child protection, maternal and infant health, nutrition and well-being, adolescent-friendly health services, and youth empowerment through skilling.
