Mithu Alur is the founder of ADAPT (formerly The Spastics Society of India) (1972)[1], an Indian non-profit working on disability and education from Mumbai.

ADAPT (Able Disable All People Together), founded by Dr Mithu Alur in Mumbai in 1972 as The Spastics Society of India, works for a disability-friendly India through education, skills training and inclusion. It runs schools and service centres offering speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy alongside vocational and livelihood support for people with disabilities.
ADAPT (formerly The Spastics Society of India) reports the following, on its own site:
- Delivered more than 7,000 online treatment sessions, 5,000 online teaching sessions and 200 Zoom calls to children and adults with disabilities during the COVID-19 centre-closure year 2021-22.
- Supported 83 beneficiaries at its Karuna Sadan centre in Dharavi, Mumbai in the 2021-22 academic year, of whom 14 children with special needs were enrolled at the centre.
