Caroline Boudreaux is the founder of Miracle Foundation India [1], an Indian non-profit working on orphans & child care from New Delhi.

Caroline Boudreaux is an American social entrepreneur and the founder of the Miracle Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works to place children living in institutions into safe and permanent family care. Its Indian arm, Miracle Foundation India, works with children's homes and state child protection authorities across several Indian states.

She founded the organisation in 2000 after visiting an orphanage in Odisha while travelling in India, and left a career in television advertising to run it.

Early life and education

Boudreaux was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. She took a Bachelor of Science in psychology at Louisiana State University.

Career

Before founding the Miracle Foundation, Boudreaux worked for nine years as an account executive in television advertising at a Fox station in Austin, Texas.

In May 2000, while on a trip around the world, she visited an orphanage at Choudwar in Odisha and met a group of more than a hundred children living there. She returned to Texas and founded the Miracle Foundation the same year.

The organisation was initially set up with an adoption focus, but changed course and instead concentrated on improving conditions in existing children's homes, using a framework of child rights benchmarks derived from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Its work later shifted again towards family-based care and reintegration, with the stated aim of ending the need for orphanages.

Miracle Foundation India, registered in India, works with government child protection functionaries and children's homes on family strengthening, kinship care, foster care and the transition of children out of institutional settings.

Recognition

Boudreaux has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and a UBS Global Visionary, and received a United Nations humanitarian award in 2017.[2][3][4][5]
