The Yusuf Meherally Centre was founded in 1961 in memory of the socialist leader Yusuf Meherally, who coined the slogans 'Quit India' and 'Simon Go Back'. Based at Tara village in Panvel taluka, Raigad district, it runs rural health services, village industries and khadi production, vocational training and education programmes. The centre has also worked on disaster relief and rural housing in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
