Star Youth Association grew out of an unregistered youth literacy group in Velugodu village, encouraged by the district coordinator of Nehru Yuva Kendra to formally register so it could access government schemes. Registered under the Societies Registration Act in 1980, its membership grew from 15 to 82 founding members. Over four decades it has expanded from one village to serve rural communities across Kurnool, Anantapur and neighbouring districts of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Odisha.
