Samraksha began in 1993 in Karnataka at a time when HIV was met with fear and stigma, working alongside women in sex work, sexual minorities and people living with HIV to build community networks, care and support. Many of those early programmes have since been handed over to the self-sustaining community organisations they created, and Samraksha now focuses on resilience building for vulnerable children and youth, cancer screening and early detection for women in Koppal and Gadag, and holiday camps for children.
