RWDS was founded in 2007 in Ramanathapuram by community workers with decades of grassroots experience, focusing on education, skill development and livelihoods for rural Tamil Nadu. A particular commitment is to the district's Palmyrah workers, whom it organises and connects to government schemes and financial institutions to strengthen their bargaining power and self-reliance.
