Jyoti Bal Vikash Sanstha runs Jyoti Badhir Vidyalaya, a school for deaf children begun in a two-bedroom rented flat in Kanpur in July 1990 by Dr Saryu Narayan Dixit, a Northwestern University professor from Kanpur. The school moved to a 3.5-acre campus near the Ganges at Bithoor, where free education is supported by an audiometry room, group hearing aids, a hostel, and training in tailoring, electrical work, computing, painting and dance.
