Hyderabad Karnataka Disabled Welfare Society (HKDWS) is a registered society founded on 6 November 1990 by people with disabilities under the principle 'self-help is the best help,' working across the six-district Hyderabad-Karnataka region (Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Ballari). Its flagship programme is the Matoshree Ambubai Residential School for Blind Girls, re-established in 2007 by Dattu Agarwal after the closure of an earlier blind girls' school, offering free education up to 10th grade, residential care, Braille instruction, vocational training and life-skills development to visually impaired girls aged 6-18 from underprivileged rural backgrounds.
