Yohei Sasakawa is the founder of Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (2006)[1], an Indian non-profit working on healthcare and livelihood from New Delhi.

Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation

S-ILF was established in 2006 by Yohei Sasakawa, WHO Goodwill Ambassador for the Elimination of Leprosy, to restore dignity and opportunity to persons affected by leprosy and their families through socio-economic empowerment and stigma reduction, with a presence across 21+ Indian states.

Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation reports the following, on its own site:

  • 20,000+ residents of leprosy colonies received humanitarian aid
  • 3,570+ people benefitting from livelihood projects
  • 1,851+ people supported through Tele OPD services
  • 750+ children supported through after-school learning centres
