Alexander Rodrigues is the co-founder of Movement for Alternatives and Youth Awareness (MAYA)[1], an Indian non-profit working on livelihood, education and healthcare from Bangalore.

Alexander Joseph Rodrigues is an Indian development practitioner and a co-founder of MAYA, the Movement for Alternatives and Youth Awareness, a Bangalore-based organisation working on livelihoods, education and health among disadvantaged communities in semi-urban and rural India. He serves as its chief functionary and secretary.

Career

Rodrigues co-founded MAYA in the early 1990s and has been involved in initiating its programmes, designing its approaches and implementing them. MAYA works to address livelihood, education and health issues through community participation.

Three of the programmes he helped develop at MAYA were subsequently spun out as independent organisations: Prajayatna, which works on improving government school education and was launched in 2000; MAYA Organic, a design and marketing enterprise that trains artisans, launched in 2001; and LabourNet, which works on formalising the informal service sector and was launched in 2004.[2][3][4]
