Sunil Pillai is the co-founder of Pragya (1995)[1], an Indian non-profit working on tribal welfare and rural & agriculture from Gurgaon.

Pragya

Pragya is a Gurgaon-headquartered nonprofit, founded in 1995, working on poverty relief, health, education, water and sanitation, and sustainable livelihoods in remote and marginalised communities, with roots in protecting Himalayan ecosystems and the cultural heritage of mountain communities. It runs field offices across remote regions of northern, western and eastern India, blending environmental conservation with community empowerment in ecologically fragile areas.

Pragya reports the following, on its own site:

  • 700,000 people in 33 disadvantaged communities across 4 countries benefited
  • 20,000 small and marginal farmer households with improved farm productivity and incomes
  • 17,000 children educated and 8,500 youth vocationally trained
  • 630 health camps reached 94,000 people
