Neil M Kamat is the founder of Sauramandala Foundation (2018)[1], an Indian non-profit working on rural & agriculture and tribal welfare.

Neil Kamat is an Indian development practitioner and a co-founder of the Sauramandala Foundation, a non-profit organisation that works with remote and hard-to-reach communities in India's North East, principally in Meghalaya.

Sauramandala describes itself as a centre for accelerated development and works on rural electrification, health, education, climate and entrepreneurship programmes, often in partnership with state governments.

Career

Kamat is a mechanical engineer by training. He worked for five years at an engineering multinational and then helped set up a rooftop solar photovoltaic start-up before moving into the social sector through the State Bank of India Foundation's Rural Development Fellowship, from which the Sauramandala Foundation grew.

He co-founded Sauramandala Foundation with Nagakarthik M. P. The organisation has worked in Meghalaya since 2019, running programmes with the state government that include rural electrification and rural entrepreneurship initiatives. Kamat is based in Bangalore, where he takes part in clean-up and afforestation drives.[2]
