Neeti Goel is the co-founder of Khaana Chahiye Foundation (2020)[1], an Indian non-profit working on hunger from Mumbai.

Neeti Goel is a Mumbai-based restaurateur and one of the founders of the Khaana Chahiye Foundation, a food relief organisation that began as a citizens' movement in Mumbai during the COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020 and was later registered as a non-profit.

Khaana Chahiye

Khaana Chahiye was launched on 29 March 2020 by a group of people from different professional backgrounds, among them Goel, Ruben Mascarenhas, Swaraj Shetty, the businessman Anik Gadia, the advocate Rakesh Singh and the software consultant Pathik Muni; Shishir Joshi of Project Mumbai joined subsequently. It ran crowdfunded, volunteer-led relief operations distributing cooked meals and grocery kits to migrant workers, daily-wage labourers and homeless people across the Mumbai metropolitan region.

By January 2021 the initiative had distributed about 4.7 million meals and 20,000 ration kits, reaching around half a million migrant workers, and was serving 70,000 meals a day at the peak of the lockdown. It mobilised some 400 volunteers and raised about one crore rupees through crowdfunding alongside twelve crore rupees from partners and companies. It also built a digital hunger map of the city to identify the most vulnerable populations.

The movement was registered as the Khaana Chahiye Foundation in November 2020. Its later work has focused on community kitchens and on data-driven, policy-oriented approaches to urban hunger.[2][3][4]
