Karuna Society for Animals and Nature

Karuna Society for Animals and Nature is a Puttaparthi-based nonprofit, registered in 2000, providing free medical care and shelter for sick, injured, abandoned and abused animals in Andhra Pradesh. It runs a stray-dog first-aid and sterilisation programme, a cattle-rescue and hospital operation for animals saved from illegal transport to slaughter, and a wildlife rescue centre caring for sloth bears, deer, monkeys, birds and snakes.

Karuna Society for Animals and Nature reports the following, on its own site:

• Over fourteen thousand dogs sterilised and vaccinated since 2002
• 500-600 Animal Birth Control surgeries performed per year
• Nearly 250 rescued animals receiving permanent care at its facilities
